What's Listening - The Format
Every month I showcase a different artist and album that I’m currently listening to. More than just browsing these artists, I purchase an album from each group in order to give them a fair representation and to increase their availability to others.
June’s artist of the month comes by contribution from Becca, who owed me a CD for a previous purchase. She bought me “Interventions and Lullabies” from The Format, another artist from the Veronica Mars Soundtrack. My usual approach to any new band is to listen to their sound and determine what other groups they might sound like. The Format gives us a combination of Jimmy Eat World, The Fray (which Jessica repeatedly gets confused with The Format anyway), and something else. That something else is what makes them unique among other similar bands, and what I appreciate in this album is a willingness to try different styles of music.
Favorite songs from the album include “Wait, Wait, Wait”, “Tune Out”, “Career Day”, and of course the one that inspired the purchase, “On Your Porch”, which takes on a completely different styling from the rest of the CD. For more information and for a chance to get some free songs (if you act relatively soon) check out their webpage at http://www.theformat.com/
I’m off for Independence Day tomorrow, but will be back later this week for more posts!
