A Single June Post

I don't know if people still read this, since I've stopped posting for the summer. But for those loyal fans out there (*cough*Rachel*cough*) I suppose I can throw you a bone. I've tried to avoid using the internet at home as much as possible (lousy dial-up) and am cautious about doing too much browsing at work. For these reasons, I have been hesitant to make new posts. But now, thanks to some office switching, I have an office to myself (my first ever that wasn't a cubicle) so I can do things like posting when I know people can't see what's on my monitors (the plural 'monitors' is correct because I am set up with 2 monitors as well). So here I am....

For those who may not know, I'm working where I worked last year doing some same things as I did before. I gave a solid presentation last week so I know that I'm doing something useful this summer. In my non-working time, Becca and I have been working on our summer blockbuster. We've filmed some stuff already and have edited parts here and there. So far, it's looking very cool, with plenty of opportunities for cameos.

That's essentially what I've been doing during the summer: work during the day, movie stuff during the night, sleep, repeat process. There's not much else to say about my summer life....

Now I'd like to take some time to relate one of my new favorite pastimes that I started just before school ended for me this summer. I like to read reviews of movies I've seen, am interested in seeing, or ones that are making a lot of noise in the film industry. But I'm not interested in reading the critics reviews, because I know what their review will say, more or less. Rather I enjoy reading the reviews of average people who have seen the movie. I find that I can get a good feel for a movie from reading the reviews of those who gave it an 'A+' compared to those who gave it an 'F'. Somewhere in the middle I can draw my own conclusion.

What I find most entertaining are the bad reviews because people suddenly become film experts who feel they aren't part of the "mainstream film going crowd". This week's movie review watch is on Spider-man 2 and the reviews I've been reading are from those who went to see it at midnight last night when it first opened. I find this funny because some of those who gave bad reviews say that they didn't really like the first one. Some of my favorite lines from today's search are as follows:

"All a movie has to have to be a hit today is SFX and CG!
What ever happned to a great scripts for example Star Wars (the 1st three) and Raiders of the Lost Ark??? ect...
"
-I hate to break it to you, but Star Wars is all about CG and SFX, hence Skywalker Ranch.

"I always knew the job of movie reviews was a bias job where they picked and choosed the artsy movies over the teen-comedies not realizing that a teen-comedy isn't supposed to make sense."
-This one just makes me laugh.

And of course...

"The physics in the movie were bullshite."
-Since when did ANY action movie care about the laws of physics?

What's even funnier are the movies these people actually do like. Needless to say, reading reviews has become a rather enjoyable pastime. Something I recommend looking into if you have time to kill.
